Cirencester League Div Two

Minety 0 Oaksey 1

WITH the league's top goal scorers, Minety's Jake Pegler and Oaksey's Gareth Jones, missing from this local derby, it was always likely to be a low-scoring affair.

And so it proved with Oaksey edging the contest thanks to the only goal of the game.

In the first half Minety prevented Oaksey from playing their normal free-passing game. Additionally, playing down the hill did not give the visitors the advantage they perhaps expected.

Oaksey were generally on top but an early warning of the home side’s improvement – bolstered partly by the inclusion of five former Oaksey players – came on eight minutes when James Dixon’s shot hit the top of the Oaksey bar.

The second half saw Oaksey generally restrict Minety to the occasional long-range shots.

The only goal came on 49 minutes when a long ball found Jamie Jobbins and he took advantage of a rare mistake from home keeper Andy Baker to tap the ball into the net.

Tim Fry came close to doubling the score 10 minutes later and Oaksey continued to maintain a territorial supremacy, forcing Minety to launch a lot of long balls.

This played into the hands of defenders Ady Lane, Tom Hainsworth, Kyle Fitzsimmons and Chris Brookes.

The influential Laurie Keith had to go off after 31 minutes with a recurrence of a long-standing injury and this unsettled Oaksey for the remainder of the half.

But after the break Sam Munton and Wayne Buckland continued to boss the midfield as Oaksey ground down a resilient Minety side.
