Chesham United 3

Cirencester Town 0

MANAGERLESS Cirencester Town slipped to one from bottom in the Southern Premier after losing 3-0 at Chesham United.

With caretaker boss Jody Bevan still in charge – he also named himself on a threadbare bench – Town offered little threat up front and forced the Chesham 'keeper Ashlee Jones to make one save all game.

Chesham, meanwhile, were able to use the Football League experience of both Darren Purse and Barry Hayles in their ranks, with the former Fulham striker scoring two of their goals.

The hosts started quickly and had a couple of early chances before opening the scoring in fortunate circumstances after 12 minutes when Aidan Bennett's attempted block deflected Stephen Hamilton-Forbes' shot past 'keeper Harvey Rivers.

Cirencester were unable to break through a well organised home defence and suffered a further setback when Kyle Lapham attempted to head the ball back to his 'keeper but got under the ball enabling Drew Roberts to collect it.

The ball was quickly passed across the penalty area for Hayles to drive into the roof of the net.

Two soft goals and 2-0 down.

After the interval Cirencester responded with a couple of breaks but the home side increased their lead just before the hour mark as Roberts' shot was deflected into the air in front of the goal and Hayles darted in to head inside the right post.

While Cirencester had some periods of possession they rarely threatened the home goal.

The nearest they came to scoring was in the second half when a well placed Charlie Griffin free kick was saved low down inside his left post by Jones.

Cirencester, who are no closer to making a managerial appointment, face a trip to Basingstoke Town in the Southern Premier on Tuesday night.
