Stratton United 3

Oaksey 4

STRATTON Utd and Oaksey put on a great advert for local football with the visitors just edging an end-to-end seven-goal thriller.

Oaksey had several chances to take the lead but it was Stratton who scored first. A throw-in close to the corner bobbled around the six-yard box, eventually finding Jamie Penfold who claimed a 35th minute goal.

Oaksey were generally on top, particularly in midfield and down the left hand side with the passing of Chris Brookes, Wayne Buckland and Laurie Keith creating problems. Sam Munton bossed the midfield in front of a resolute back four where Kyle Fitzsimons was outstanding.

Playing down the hill in the second half it was Stratton who got on top early on but Oaksey’s predatory centre forward Gareth Jones scored in the 55th and 60th minutes to give Oaksey a lead that they certainly deserved.

Five minutes later Keith found the net from outside the box to give Oaksey a two-goal cushion.

However, some rare poor defending with 15 minutes to go allowed Dan Thompson to pull one back.

The revival was spoiled somewhat by Oaksey’s Jones taking advantage of a defensive error and making it 4-2 to the visitors.

Oaksey’s nerves were not helped when Dan Timbrell made it 4-3 on 85 minutes but the visitors held on breathlessly to move up to fourth in the table.
