SWINDON warmed up for tonight's last place play-off decider at Lakeside Hammers by defeating a British League Select team by two points in a challenge match at the Abbey Stadium.

The Select side led for much of the meeting but two 5-1s in the last two races gave the home side their 40-38 victory.

An impressive Nick Morris was unbeaten from his four rides, while Rohan Tungate collected three wins and combined with Josh Grajczonek for a 5-1 over Chris Harris in the decider.

Kyle Newman did not take his final ride after being involved in awkward collision with Stefan Nielsen in heat 11, but the Poole rider is thought to have avoided any serious injury.

Brady Kurtz then won the Bob Kilby Memorial Trophy, which was run as a second-half event, the Australian youngster getting the better of Morris, Tungate and Grajczonek in the final.

SWINDON 40: Nick Morris 11+1, Josh Grajczonek 9+1, Rohan Tungate 9, Justin Sedgmen 5+1, Brady Kurtz 3, Charles Wright 3, Stefan Nielsen 0.

BRITISH LEAGUE SELECT 38: Sam Masters 9, Bradley Wilson-Dean 7+3, Aaron Summers 7+1, Chris Harris 6+1, Kyle Newman 6+1, Todd Kurtz 3+1, Bradley Wilson-Dean r/r.

SWINDON need to avoid a defeat by more than six points this evening, otherwise they will be edged out of the top four on race points difference.

But even allowing for the Arena-Essex Raceway being a notoriously tricky venue to visit – with the Hammers having lost just once at home this season – Robins boss Rossiter says his side must go for the win.

He said: “It’s a massive night for us, and we can’t just go there looking for a point.

“I know people will be saying it’s a difficult task, but I really don’t think it’s that bad. You’ve got to be on something that gets you off the start there, and you’ve got to attack Lakeside.

“If we do that, we should be fine, and we’ve got enough good riders in the team who can do it.”

LAKESIDE: Scott Nicholls, Lewis Bridger, Edward Kennett, Richard Lawson, Kim Nilsson, Ben Morley, Lewis Kerr.

SWINDON: Jason Doyle, Justin Sedgmen, Rohan Tungate, Josh Grajczonek, Nick Morris, Charles Wright, Stefan Nielsen.
