Purton 2 Easington Sports 2
MORE than an hour of torrential rain before kick-off put the game between Purton and Easington Sports in jeopardy, but it went ahead 20 minutes later than scheduled, writes Alan Eastwood.
When the weather abated the pitch dried out sufficiently and the hosts came from behind twice to force a 2-2 draw.
Easington took the lead after 15 minutes when a shot by Michael Spaull squeezed in despite an effort by Keiran Diaz-Benitez to clear the ball.
Purton pulled level on 44 minutes when Joe Hiscock was fouled in the box and Ed Herbert converted the spot-kick.
Easington regained the lead after 59 minutes when Purton failed to clear a cross and an unmarked Sam Grant netted.
The home side then created a good chance, Matt Bennett shooting wide from a good position, before they levelled on 79 minutes when an excellent run and pass by Bennett put Hiscock clear on the left and he finished clinically from 18 yards.
There were a number of good performances from the Purton side but Ed Herbert was the man of the match.
