CIRENCESTER head pro Ed Goodwin has been named as fourth seed for the Marston’s Matchplay which tees off at Chipping Sodbury on August 31.

The two-day competition is the now-traditional curtain raiser for the Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA winter season.

It pits the top 16 PGA pros from the two counties against each other and is always hotly contested.

Goodwin has been drawn against Kevin Pitts of the Mendip GC in the first round.

Other first round clashes include 2015 champion Giuseppe Licata facing Paul Ryder of Filton, top seed Ross Langdon taking on Pat Baker of Bleadon Hill and No.3 seed George Ryall challenging David Haines of Burnham & Berrow.

Two weeks after the Marston’s Matchplay, the Total Triumph Order of Merit Championship begins with the 18-hole medal at Knowle Golf Club on September 14.
