ONLY one match was completed in SweetFuels CDCA Division One last week due to heavy rain.

Cricklade got the game on and took the opportunity to keep up the pressure on the leaders with another successful run-chase in a rain-affected match at Southam.

Batting first on a good pitch visitors Sherston Magna posted a competitive 210-6 thanks mainly to a fine knock from Ben Dickenson who carried his bat with an unbeaten 84. Good support was received from D Nelson (29), Andy Pegg (21) and skipper James Harmer (21), while Tom Davies (2-22) bowled a good spell for the hosts.

Rain reduced the second innings to 35 overs with a revised target of 193. The new CDCA rain rules introduced this season should make chases of this kind tougher than previously.

However Cricklade are expert at chasing big targets and so it proved as they cruised to victory at 194-3 with nearly three overs to spare.

Leading from the front as usual was prolific opener Paul Paginton (123* off 118 balls) and he received good support from fellow opener Tom Davies (27). The most successful of the visiting bowlers was D Nelson (2-33).

Third-placed Cricklade travel to second-placed Adlestrop this weekend for a crucial game which will decide who has the right to challenge Oaksey for the title.

At South Cerney the hosts posted 177-8 against visitors Oakridge with Garrick Chivers (86) the outstanding performer. Sadly rain was the winner with the match finely poised as the abandonment came with Oakridge on 83-3 off 16 overs.

At Barnsley Park the match was abandoned without a ball being bowled with visitors Adlestrop left frustrated at being denied the opportunity to make up ground on Oaksey who did not have a game.
