North Leigh 6 Purton 9

PURTON came out on top in an astonishing 15-goal thriller at Eynsham Park, writes Alan Eastwood.

There could have been even more goals as Purton spurned a further half dozen chances and North Leigh failed to take four more opportunities themselves.

Purton went ahead after 60 seconds when Matt Bennett hit a post and Ollie Hunt finished off the rebound.

Bennett (twice) and Joe Hiscock almost added to the score before Purton did go 2-0 ahead on 16 minutes through a Matt Bearne header.

North Leigh hit back with Evans and Steele netting on 18 and 22 minutes.

Goals still kept coming with Bennett adding strikes in the 29th and 31st minute.

Matthew Evans added a fifth Purton goal after 35 minutes and an own goal gave the visitors a 6-2 lead.

But just before the break North Leigh took the scoreline to 6-4 through goals from Joseph (39th minute) and Steele (41).

The second half again produced a lot more chances, many of them squandered.

Hunt netted a penalty after 49 minutes before Hiscock had his spot kick saved. But substitute Shannon Pocock made it 8-4 from Purton's third successive penalty in the 74th minute.

Bennett completed his hat-trick 10 minutes from time before North Leigh rallied with two late goals of their own from Sheppard and Hardy to round off a remarkable game of football.
