SWINDON boss Alun Rossiter was left frustrated as his Robins side were denied the chance to build on a brilliant win at King’s Lynn 24 hours earlier when their clash with Belle Vue was belatedly called off on Friday night.

Even the newly-built National Speedway Stadium in Manchester could not cope with the prolonged rain throughout the day.

But to fans’ annoyance, including those who had travelled up from Swindon, the meeting was only postponed at 8.45pm, an hour after the scheduled start time – without a race being run.

Rossiter said: “We had constant rain throughout the day, but to be fair to Belle Vue they have the best drainage system around so we were hopeful they could get the meeting on.

“They tried to get it sorted, but the work that needed to be done would have just taken much too long.

“Everybody is frustrated, especially after having such a long journey to get there, and it’s not what we needed.

“It is what it is though, and we’ll just have to go back there later in the season to hopefully get a good result.”

Swindon will be back in action as they look to give their play-off bid another boost against champions Poole at the Abbey on Monday (7.30).
