Bowmoor Sailing Club

YOO Youth Regatta

THE YOO Youth Regatta took place in very breezy and gusty conditions at the beginning of July at Bowmoor Sailing Club.

There were 17 entrants mostly from Bowmoor but two competitors travelled from Severn Sailing Club.

There were seven different types of boat ranging from a 29er to four Optimists, some of whom were sailed by experienced racers and others who were just starting their racing career.

In the first race there was a battle between the RS Aero 7 sailed by Charlie Samson and the 29er sailed of Alaric and Lorelei Bates. However, when the handicaps were worked out the race was won by Katy Jenkins in an Optimist (Bowmoor), with Charlie (Bowmoor) second and Toby Banbrook (Bowmoor) third in his Optimist.

The third race saw the wind increase to more than 20 mph with white horses all over the lake which led to several capsizes.

This race was won by Charlie with Matt in second place and Zoe Bazen (Bowmoor) in a Byte C11 third.

This meant that Charlie was first overall with Matt second (first junior) and Zoe third (first girl).

Due to the tenacity shown by the sailors and the generosity of our sponsor, yoo, anyone who completed three races went away with prizes. Many thanks go to Rachael and Chris Jenkins who organised and ran the event and their team of helpers.
