AFTER an indifferent start to the season, Jordan Weaving has hit top form in the Pirelli National Superstock 600 Championship – which is worrying news for series leader Carl Phillips.

Weaving followed up his runner-up spot in the previous round at Snetterton with his first win (and fourth podium) of the season at Thruxton on Sunday.

With Northern Ireland's Phillips limping over the line in 11th place, former Cirencester Deer Park student Weaving has closed the gap at the top to 29 points with five of the 12-race series remaining.

As 2014 British Motul Motostar Moto3 champion, Stroud-based Weaving had been one of the favourites for the Pirelli series, but he had to work hard for his first win – by less than half a second from Keenan Armstrong.

It was a frantic scrap throughout and on the run into the Club Chicane the order changed lap after lap.

With four laps remaining and a group of eight riders fighting for the win, George Stanley was forced to sit up on his Kawasaki after a slight nudge by Tom Oliver.

Stanley ran into the back of Brad Jones, who had led the race for a number of laps, and the pair crashed out. Tom Ward's Yamaha also got a firm punt to the rear of his machine but managed to stay on and settled into third place.

Meanwhile, at the front, NMT No Limits Kawasaki rider Weaving, 19, was able to pull ahead and he held his narrow advantage all the way to the chequered flag.
