Bourton One-Mile Challenge

THE Bourton One-Mile Challenge attracted quality runners this year, hoping to break the course records.

The winners, both from Bristol & West AC in the Men’s and Ladies’ races didn’t quite manage to do that, but certainly recorded very fast times, with Dave Bishop crossing the line in 4.15 and Kate Hulls in 4.50.

Elsie Butler from Charnwood AC, second lady in 5.11, managed to hold off Bourton’s Mike Smith who took the MV45 prize in 5.13.

A great run by Kan Ikeda, also of Bourton, up among the adults in 5.20 gave him 1st MU15.

BRAT’s Peter Eckersley’s battle for his age category of MV55 in 5.38 resulted in victory, making his journey worthwhile.

Arthur Daley of Gloucester AC produced a fine performance as usual for 1st MV60 in 5.56 and Gordon Jones of Cirencester AC had a great run for 1st MV65 in 5.50, as did his team mate, Tony Shelbourne 1st MV70 in 6.10.

Previous ladies’ winner, Shona Crombie-Hicks of Cheltenham & County Harriers, finished a good third in 5.30, just two seconds slower than last year.

Rowena Verity from Bourton RR is having a great year with 6.28 taking the first FV50 category.

Alice Lewis of Dursley and Margaret Hollamby of Bourton battled each other to the line with both winning their age categories of FV55 and FV60 in 6.41 and 6.40 respectively.

Sharon Smith had a good run as always for first FV65 in 6.59.

Isabel Kiey-Thomas of Bourton had an excellent run to win the FU15 category in 5.37, followed in by joint FU20 winners Emily Field, also of Bourton in and Bethan Powell of Gloucester AC.

Unbelievably Steph Holton and Catherine Wheeler did a 50K race in the morning and still managed to turn out and run the mile in 8.44.

Thank you to our race sponsors Cotswold & Vale and Shackleton & Wintle for their generous support.

Thank you also to all those who turned up to help on the day. We couldn’t have managed without you.
