SweetFuels CDCA Div Three

Charlton 119-5

Fairford 202-5

FAIRFORD'S 2nd XI completed the double this season over bottom-of-the-table Charlton with a comfortable 83-run away victory.

Fairford paced their innings well on a good wicket but very slow outfield, which meant that boundaries were at a premium all day.

Simon Embleton-Smith (68) survived an early chance to share in partnerships of more than 50 with David Taylor (25) and over 90 with Colin Denness (35) for the first two wickets.

Rich Young (17) and Harvey New (15*) then provided the acceleration needed to achieve maximum batting bonus points with a final score of 202-5.

Charlton's reply was strangled by some very tight early bowling from Kurt Eyre (2-16), Olly Holland (0-18) and Harvey New (2-24).

However, with the victory in the bag, Fairford were frustrated in their efforts to bowl out the home side. The visitors ran through all their bowling options but were let down by their catching, dropping several chances.

Opener Don Oakley made the most of a straight-forward life to top-score with 45, while Paul Chivers and E Powell stone-walled for several overs to remain not out at the end. Charlton finished their 40 overs on 119-5.

The result keeps Fairford at the top of CDCA Division Three by a narrow margin.
