SIDDINGTON’S Phoebe Pine, who narrowly missed out on selection for the Paralympics in Rio after making it to the final para-archery shoot-off, will be travelling to Brazil after all.

She will fly out to Rio on September 13 for a week after being selected as part of the Paralympic Inspiration Programme in which a select band of athletes thought to have the potential to be picked for the next Games in four years’ time are given the chance to sample the whole experience and atmosphere.

In June, 18-year-old Cirencester College student Phoebe was nominated by Archery GB for a place on this programme and this week she was selected to travel. Phoebe will visit the headquarters of the British Paralympic Association at the end of this month to meet the other athletes.

Her club, Deer Park Archers, based near Shurdington, made the announcement on their website saying: “This is a massive endorsement for Phoebe and plays a big part in her plans to qualify for the Tokyo 2020 Games.”

Meanwhile, club trio Tom Howse, James Howse and Lucy Mason will be representing the GB team at the European Youth Championships in Bucharest which begins this weekend.
