AN amateur golfer from Cirencester is dreaming of playing alongside Rory McIlroy at a European Tour tournament after winning a Bridgestone-sponsored event at his club.

Dan Hill won Bridgestone UK tyre division’s DriveGuard Trophy at Cirencester Golf Club, which has put him in with a chance of playing in the Pro-Am ahead of the British Masters, supported by Sky Sports, in October.

The 23 handicapper won the medal competition with a net round of 65, which has qualified him for a regional final at Heythrop Park on Saturday, July 30, followed by a Pro-Am appearance at the Bridgestone Challenge – a Challenge Tour event – at the end of August, also at Heythrop Park.

And if Dan is part of the winning team at Heythrop, he will then go on to play at the Pro-Am of the British Masters, held at The Grove Golf Club, where he will tee up with a household name of the sport.

Dan said; “I’m really excited about playing at Heythrop Park. I’m looking forward to testing myself there.

“Playing in the British Masters Pro-Am would be an incredible opportunity for me. Rory McIlroy is one of my favourite players so it would be brilliant to play with him.”

Bridgestone have linked up with nearly 200 golf clubs nationwide to sponsor the DriveGuard Trophy.
