WILTSHIRE-based riders dominate the New Zealand eventing team for the 2016 Rio Olympics which has been announced this morning.

Pride of place goes to Sir Mark Todd who will become New Zealand's oldest ever Olympic athlete when he lines up in Brazil.

Todd, 60, was one of four riders named in the New Zealand eventing squad for the Rio Games and is based at Badgerstown near Swindon.

He will ride alongside Jock Paget, Jonelle Price and Clarke Johnstone in the eventing team. Jonelle and her husband Tim, who has been selected as reserve, also have their stables in Wiltshire, close to Marlborough, with Paget nearby at Buttermere.

Todd has appeared in eight Olympic Games and has won five medals, most notably individual golds at Los Angeles (1984) and Seoul (1988).

It would have been nine Games as he was also selected to compete in Moscow (1980), however New Zealand did not participate.

Todd said: “I am very happy with my horses at the moment and the strong team that has been named. I am looking forward to the competition."
