ZARA TINDALL’S hopes of competing at this summer’s Rio Olympics are over.

Former world eventing champion Tindall helped the Great Britain team win a silver medal at London 2012.

But she does not feature among a 10-rider list of British nominated entries for Rio compiled by the British Equestrian Federation and published by the sport’s world governing body, the Federation Equestre Internationale.

A final Rio-bound team of four is due to be named on July 5, along with the GB showjumping and dressage line-ups.

Tindall, The Queen’s granddaughter, achieved the Rio qualifying criteria aboard her London Olympics ride High Kingdom when the horse returned to four-star action at last month’s Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials following a lengthy injury lay-off.

But she has now missed out with only nominated riders able to be put forward to the British Olympic Association for final selection.

Tindall’s base at Gatcombe does have a potential representative, however, in Tom McEwen.

He is named along with other local riders Kitty King (Stanton St Quintin) and Holly Woodhead (Marlborough).

The remainder of names on the eventing long list are: triple Olympic medallist Tina Cook, Laura Collett, Pippa Funnell, Gemma Tattersall, Izzy Taylor and Nicola Wilson.

The list of 10 nominations for the dressage team includes the trio of Gloucestershire-based riders who helped GB to Olympic gold in London 2012 – Charlotte Dujardin, Carl Hester and Laura Tomlinson, who lives in Oaksey and has stables at Ampney St Peter near Cirencester.

Also included is Tomlinson’s stable rider and protegee Lara Griffith.

The nominated British showjumping entries, meanwhile, include three of the London 2012 gold medal-winning team - Scott Brash, Nick Skelton and Ben Maher as well as Wiltshire's Jessica Mendoza who is now based in the Netherlands.

Anne Dunham, who won gold for GB in para dressage at four consecutive Olympics from 1996 to 2008, is on the long list for selection to the Paralympics team at Rio. Anne trains at the Talland School of Equitation near Cirencester
