June Medal
GARY WHITEMAN and Martin Peet found sudden bursts of form to top the leaderboard in the June Medal at Cirencester Golf Club on Sunday.
Whiteman, who had not shot better than a net 74 in seven competitive outings during 2016, put everything together to burn around in a net 66. He just edged out Peet (66) – who improved from 55th place on his only other comp this season – on countback. Whiteman and Peet led Division Three from third-placed David Michael (67) and Mike Brown (68).
In Division One, Nick J Brown hit a sparkling net 67 to pip the equally impressive Mark Bisset (67). They were followed home by Kieran Dixon (69) and Tom Waller (70), who is also progressing smoothly in the Tovey Cup.
Mark Foster posted the lowest gross score of 72 off his handicap of two.
Andy Bell topped Division Two with his net 67, being chased by Jack Brown (69), Dave Exton (69) and in-form Bathurst Cup winner Robert Preddy (70).
Jack Brown added to the recent spate of holes in one at the course with his ace on the 11th.
Ken Russell plundered the bulk of the prize money pot with birdie twos on both the 2nd and the 11th.
Other twos came from Brian Kelly (2nd); Jason Stevens (2nd); Nick J Brown (13th); Terry Brisland (18th) and Mark Foster (18th).
