Middle England League

Cambridgeshire Women 83

Gloucestershire Women 101

GLOUCESTERSHIRE'S women chalked up their second win in the Middle England League with a 101-83 victory over Cambridgeshire at Aylesbury Bowls Club.

The match started with Cambridgeshire having to pull out of playing on one rink when one of their ladies was injured and they had no reserves to fall back on.

That meant the match was a five-rink affair and by the halfway stage Gloucestershire were 48-37 down before moving through the gears to eventually run out winners by 18 shots.

The rinks that did the damage included that of Moreton's Rita Gerry. She played alongside Gill Fry (Gloucester Spa), Di Wilson (Olveston) and Margaret McColl (Cheltenham Spa) who, from 8-1 down, picked up 20 shots in just 10 ends before going on to win 25-15.

Another Moreton bowler, Jenny Stanfield, had a similarly emphatic 21-13 rink win when playing with Val Ayres (Lydney), Sue Osbourne (Kingswood & Hanham) and Joy Sheward (Cheltenham Whaddon).

The comeback of the match involved the rink of Tetbury's Joyce Keating. Playing with Jenny Westlake (Arrow) and Lindsay Collin (Page Ladies) they trailed 15-4 but hit a purple patch to run out 27-19 winners.

Marguerite Cobb (Tetbury) was part of the only losing rink, her quartet going down 18-12.
