CIRENCESTER Triathlon Club members came back with a silver and a bronze at the European Age Group Championships held in Lisbon, Portugal over the weekend.

Sprint silver medalist from Geneva in 2015, Carol Clarke repeated her feat in the 65+ category, finishing in 1hr 30min 03 sec with excellent swim and run times.

She was again beaten by fellow Brit Sue Bathgate.

The standard event on Sunday saw Sarah Gunn set a personal best 10k time of 39.16 in the 50-54 years category, with an overall time of 2:22.09 which saw her take an outstanding bronze medal and finish first Brit.

Debutant Dan Wood found the going tough in his 30+ sprint section, while seasoned campaigner Adrian Williams in the 40+ age group finished in a very fast and impressive 1:05.06 to place seventh overall and third in a GB vest.

Jon Wickett finished in a creditable 28th place from 76 competitors in the 45-49 years event, despite completing an extra lap on the run, but for which he would have come sixth.

He had the consolation of recording the fastest time of the day for the fifth lap.

Clarke, Gunn and Williams have all earned automatic qualification into their 2017 respective events in Germany or Kitzbuhel in Austria.
