CIRENCESTER Golf Club captain Rodney Williams hosted his 2016 away day on the Beaufort course of Chipping Sodbury Golf Club with 40 members taking part.
The visiting players coped well with the thick rough and rapid greens, putting together some very acceptable scores.
The team of Clive Bennett, John Parsons, Martin Harrison and Andrew Ruskin proved runaway winners with a total of 87 points.
Captain Williams, ably assisted by Cirencester head pro Ed Goodwin, Eric Varcoe and Stewart Osborn, took the runners-up spot with 81 points.
Third place went to Gerry Bruton, Paul Stephens, Geoff Knight and new member James Gore, who despite arriving breathlessly after being misdirected to the Burford GC, proved the main contributor to his team's score of 80 points.
Nearest the pin was won by Robert Evans and nearest the pin in two was collected by club champion Chris Nevin; both received a two-ball voucher for Chipping Sodbury Golf Course.
To raise money for the captain's chosen charity, The Alzheimers Society, fines for real or perceived misdemeanours on the course were levied by Andrew Bacon which raised the sum of £140.
