Middleton Cup Trial
Gloucestershire 111 Oxfordshire 106
GLOUCESTERSHIRE began their Middleton Cup Trial with a five-shot win (111-106) over Oxfordshire at Cheltenham BC.
In wet conditions, manager Rob Griffiths gained many positives as the side won three rinks with the quartet of Shaun Morris, Vince Wilks, Matt Curtis and Dougie Lewis (all Gloucester City) coming out the top winning rink when they won 26-17.
Fairford bowlers Nigel Cansdale and Jim Luce were on separate winning rinks.
Cansdale joined with Jack Williams (Cheltenham), Alex White (Cheltenham) and Ben Coldrick (Barnwood), to beat Mark Sykes' quartet 19-16.
Luce partnered Dafydd Farr (Barnwood), James Speller and Steve Knight (both Cheltenham) and they had to dig deep to come from 6-1 and 11-4 down against Mark Charlett before winning 19-16.
Max Risby (Cirencester) and Pete Stinchcombe (Tetbury) played alongside Adam Smith (Dowty) and Nathan Kitchen (Cheltenham) and despite a late rally they went down 20-16 to Ray Gaskins' four.
