U13s North League

Cirencester U13s 242 all out

Lechlade U13s 247-4

Lechlade won by six wickets

ON A BRIGHT, sunny but sometimes chilly day the visitors to the Park on Sunday, May 15 were Lechlade U13 in their North League match versus Cirencester U13s.

The Home side won the toss and elected to bat. Fred Walker and Raife Hackett started steadily before Walker was out bowled to Matthews for 7.

Oliver Wood joined Hackett and continued to assault the Lechlade bowling.

After Hackett was out for a well crafted 10, Hamish Brook (36) and Gregor Hawkes (28) provided support for Wood who finished on 79.

Brook and Hawkes both drove the ball with power and ran well with respective batting partners.

Notable performances with the bat also came from the left handed Theo Fenwick (16) playing some lovely drives and sweep shots and Willoughby Norrie (12).

The total of 242 off 33 overs looked a big total to chase down for the visitors.

Lechlade started well despite some tight bowling from Adam Harding who bowled a very tidy spell picking up one wicket for 17 runs off his 4 overs.

Wood could not find his line and gave away a number of wides with Brook his other batting accomplice also leaking runs.

From what was a good start by Cirencester having the visitors at 81 for 4 wickets down, the show was then stolen by Freddie Merrett and Gabe Knight.

Between them they put on 167 runs with Merrett 95 not out and Knight 72 not out.

Both innings were built off sensible and patient shot selection watchful of the Cirencester field placings and the ever decreasing total to achieve.

It was great to see a mature innings’ from both players who despite only giving one chance between them found a way to unlock the potential in the Cirencester bowling.

Lechlade ran out worthy winners by six wickets scoring 247 in the 32nd over.
