THE Cirencester Table Tennis League held its Finals Night and presentation of trophies on Monday, April 25 in the company of Les Smith (president) and Janie Kirby (chairman) from the Gloucestershire Table Tennis Association.

The two semi-final Open Singles were hotly contested with Andy Hurley winning a tense four-set match against Tom Watmore, while on the other table Ashley Hilton had a tough match to beat Tony Mudd in five sets.

The juniors final saw Anton Barnett win against Joe White in four sets in a close-run battle.

We then had a short break in play to present the cadets and juniors who represented CTTL in local competitions with their certificates.

The Open Singles final was then played with Andy Hurley winning the title this year from Ashley Hilton in four sets.

The Master Singles was a one-sided affair with Dave Greaney beating chairman Andrew Jarvis, who was not on his best form, in three sets.

Next up was the Vets Singles with Tom Watmore winning through against Steve Mollart in four close sets.

The last match was the Open Doubles final in which Nick Watts & Ashley Hilton beat Dave Greaney & Mark Hobbs in a five-setter, winning the last set 11-13.

Les Smith then spoke of the sudden death almost one year ago of Ken Bridle and its impact on the local leagues as well as the county association.

The association decided to remember Ken with a permanent trophy to be presented to the person who had made the most significant contribution locally to the Gloucestershire leagues.

The inaugural trophy was then presented to Andrew Jarvis in recognition of his work over the past year not only at the Cirencester TTL but in taking on the role of treasurer that Ken so ably performed.

The trophies won on the night were then presented along with some of the divisional and HKO trophies.
