NATHAN HUYNH, a 15-year-old who lives in Swindon and rides for local cycling team Cotswold Veldrijden, finished first in the National Isle of Man Youth tour.

This annual event – three stages over three days – has been won in the past by riders who have gone on to join professional teams.

Nathan finished third in the opening time trial in 1min 48sec.

Nearly 70 riders took part in event two, a road race around the rolling hills of the Isle of Man.

Nathan broke clear in a group of 20 and was very active throughout trying to break the group down.

A group of 15 eventually contested the sprint finish and although Nathan got a bit boxed in he still managed to finish 10th with the first 15 being given the same finish time of 59min 32sec.

That left Nathan in fourth place ahead of the final day.

Race three was a short circuit Criterium based close to the sea front.

From the gun Nathan was again towards the head of the field, occasionally putting in little attacks. Eventually one worked and a group of four riders including Nathan got clear.

The quartet worked well together, even lapping some slower riders.

In the sprint finish Nathan crossed the line in third (48min 21sec) and with a time bonus given to the first six riders home, he clinched the title.
