North Dorset Village Marathon and Relay Sturminster Newton, 26.2 miles road

MARTIN CROUCHER of Cirencester AC demonstrated the value of demanding and dedicated training as he finished the North Dorset Village Marathon in 3hr 41min.

Not only was this some 27 minutes faster than his time last year but, despite energy-sapping hills around the 20-mile mark, he ran the second half a good 10 minutes faster than the first – the kind of marathon negative split most of us can only dream of.

Martin certainly looks ready for the 56-mile Comrades Marathon in South Africa next month.

RESULTS: 1, Jon Sharkey (Bournemouth AC) 2:39.55; 82, Martin Croucher 3:41.12. 267 finished.

DeSota Grand Parade, Bradenton, Florida 5km road

TONY SHELBOURNE raced every inch of the DeSota 5km in 21.23 to earn the title of Senior Grand Master Champion and, more importantly, to beat his main rival.

Finishing first MV70 was even more impressive given the short time he had to acclimatize to conditions on a Florida evening with temperatures approaching 90degF and 80 per cent humidity.

RESULTS: 1, Michael Lamb 17.22; 25, Tony Shelbourne 21.23 (first MV70). 352 finished.

Oldbury White Horse Sprint Triathlon Calne (400m swim, 20km bike, 5km road run)

LUKE CAMPBELL was in winning form again – this time in the White Horse Sprint Triathlon coming 16th overall and first in his age group.

This promising junior clearly performs as well both in the water and on a bike as he does running on the road. Terry Ranger also had a good day finishing third in his age group.

RESULTS: 1, Paul Ryman of Frome Triathlon (5.34; 30.11; 16.19) 53.36; 16, Luke Campbell (6.02; 37.34; 17.26) 1:02.45 (first junior); 55, Terry Ranger (7.56; 36.46; 21.02) 1:09.00 (third MV55). 211 finished.
