CIA Arthur Shipway Cup Final
Lechlade 2 Poulton 2
(AET: Lechlade won 4-3 on penalties)
LECHLADE'S keeper Neil Lee was first a villain and then a hero as the enigmatic division one side came from 2-0 behind early in the game to beat Poulton 4-3 on penalties in the wind-affected final of the CIA Arthur Shipway Cup at the Corinium Stadium.
In the sixth minute Lee let a Steve Andrews shot from close range through his legs to put the favourites a goal up.
Four minutes later John Dawson doubled the scoring and the final seemed Poulton's for the taking. But a shot from fully 35 yards out from Jackie Crane on 17 minutes put Lechlade back in the game and from then on they were always in it.
When Jay Goddard bundled the ball into the net to make it 2-2 with 18 minutes to go extra time beckoned and it was two tired teams who played out the 30 minutes before penalties loomed.
Poulton missed their first penalty while Lechlade scored twice before their first miss, but it was Lee who saved Poulton's fifth strike and then coolly converted his side's final penalty to give Lechlade its first ever Shipway Cup final win.
