DAVID KRAYEM from Tetbury made it a clean sweep in the opening round of the Castle Combe GT Championship, taking both pole position in qualifying and the race victory in his modified Ginetta G50.

Krayem took pole by more than a second from Barry Squibb (Mitsubishi Evo), who proved his principal opposition in the race itself.

Barry Squibb got the better start from the front row, taking the lead from Krayem.

Squibb was still in front as they crossed the line to start lap five as the pair began to break away from the rest of the field.

Krayem had a better run than Squibb around Camp Corner on every lap, however, the sheer power of the Japanese machine made it incredibly difficult for Krayem to capitalise.

On lap nine, however, Krayem crossed the timing beam on his own and Squibb failed to make another appearance. Sure enough, mechanical issues had robbed him of a near-certain podium and a fine chance of victory.

From that point Krayem was unchallenged on his drive to victory, taking the Castle Combe GT Championship lap record on his way to the chequered flag.

Krayem crossed the line to take the overall and Class B victories by 16 seconds, ahead of Class C winner Oliver Bull. Third-placed Ben Scrivens joined them on the podium.

The Castle Combe GT Championship will feature heavily on the bill for the upcoming Motors TV Live Raceday, with a double header scheduled on May 2.
