Histon 3 Cirencester Town 3

CIRENCESTER TOWN shared the points in an entertaining 3-3 draw at relegated Histon on Saturday.

Charlie Griffin's brace of goals took him to 26 for the season (21 in the league and five in cup competitions) .

Town looked the more likely to score during the opening half-hour with Histon having to rely on counter attacks but the home side finished the half well and opened the scoring just before the interval when Rogan McGeorge collected a clearance of his own cross and shot home from just outside the penalty area.

The second half started at a frantic pace as Cirencester pushed forward in search of an equaliser but it was Histon who doubled their lead after Cirencester failed to clear a high bouncing ball on the edge of their area and Matty Allan nipped in before chipping an advancing Josh Langley from the edge of the box.

The final 15 minutes produced four goals; firstly Griffin followed in Ollie Knight chip which at was fumbled by the home sides' stand-in 'keeper Harry McGregor and managed to bundle it over the line. McGregor had taken the gloves when Aaron Chapman was injured in the warm-up.

Six minutes later Griffin latched on to a long ball and rounded his marker before firing his shot across the 'keeper and inside the left post.

Joe Carden appeared to have scored a 90th-minute winner for Histon when collecting a through ball on the edge of the box and shooting inside the left post.

But after three minutes of added time Cirencester pressure was rewarded when Aidan Bennett, advancing down the left flank, spotted the 'keeper off his line and executed a perfectly flighted lob.

Cirencester Town finish the season on 60 points and in 15th place.
