Trowbridge Wanderers 1 Malmesbury Vics 2

MALMESBURY reproduced something akin to the form of their great win at Melksham last weekend rather than the poor midweek capitulation at Royal Wootton Bassett when claiming all three points at Trowbridge on Sunday.

The Wanderers were the quicker of the two sides to find their rhythm, although rarely threatening Joe Snell in the Vics goal.

Malmesbury upped the pace and created two good chances in as many minutes. From the second of these, a well rehearsed corner kick from Ewen Kenny found Jack Duckers who slotted home. Duckers almost doubled the lead moments later with a fierce drive which was well saved. Chances were few as the game turned into a midfield battle, until an unmarked Otis Young finished well to square the game at the break.

With the wind in their favour in the second half, the Vics pressed forward. Krystian Hext went close with a header that was pushed over by the keeper and Sam Parker just failed to connect with a cross.

Joe Thornton restored the visitors' lead on 54 minutes when he cut inside from the left, and unleashed a drive that went through a crowd of bodies and into the net.

Trowbridge pushed extra men forward in search of an equaliser but could find no way past a resolute Vics defence, ably marshalled by veteran Allan Webb.

Vics MoM: Sam Parker.
