U10 Girls FA Cup Final
Ashton Keynes Girls U10s 3
Dursley Girls U10s 0
ASHTON KEYNES U10 Girls comfortably saw past Dursley U10 Girls to win their FA Cup final on Sunday, March 20, writes Kath Johnson.
The two sides locked horns at High Road and would promise an entertaining spectacle given the high-quality opposition they'd both dispatched of to make it this far.
But after overcoming a nervous start, Ashton Keynes had the better of the play and eventually broke the deadlock through Emily Hillier.
Ashton Keynes would go on to double their lead with a pin-point cross from Neve Johnson being hammered home by Skye Fitchett. They were 2-0 to the good at half-time.
The second-half continued in a similar vain as the first, but the Dursley defence were holding firm to not concede a third and potentialy fatal goal.
Dursley had a chance to halve the deficit on the break, but were denied as Gracie Dick made a crucial clearance.
Ashton Keynes didn’t stop pushing for a third, however, and were finally rewarded when Jemima Lister’s shot was forced in by the impressive Emily Hillier for 3-0, putting the game firmly out of Dursley’s reach.
The FA Cup win tops a fantastic season for Ashton Keynes Girls U10 and their coach Mike Logan as they have won three out of the four competitions available to them in their age group.
They now look forward to playing in summer tournaments and trying to repeat their success next season.
