VETERAN Footballer Stuart Pearce has signed for Gloucestershire side Longford AFC.
The club, which has been labelled the “worst football club in Britain”, has been on a torrid run of results - including a 0-17 loss to Bibury at home - and hope the former England international is the man to turn their fortunes around.
53-year-old Pearce played for England 78 times, scoring five goals before retiring in 2002. He has held a number of coaching roles since including managing Team GB at the London Olympics in 2012.
He will be coming up against such local teams as Winchcombe and Bibury.
Longford currently lie bottom of Gloucestershire’s Northern Senior 2nd Division & Stroud League and have only scored one goal so far this season, with 179 conceded.
