MALMESBURY’S Charlene Harvey has completed her first year of body building competition with a World Championship.

Charlene, who entered her first competition in June, competed against contestants from around the world, including USA, Slovakia, Nigeria, Germany and the UAE, at the Pure Elite World Finals in Margate.

With a high standard of competition, Charlene had to perform each of her poses with precision, and despite some initial nerves put on an accomplished performance to win the Muscle Model Open World Champion trophy.

She said: "It feels amazing. I've put in so much hard work and preparation so for it to result in a win was a huge relief as much as anything."

The combination of the World Championship and a second place finish in the Muscle Model over 35 World Championship category saw Charlene promoted to Pure Elite pro status.

Supported by her training partner and husband, Chris Harvey along with personal trainer Emma Brace, Charlene put in months of hard work, often visiting the gym three times a day and the combination of training, toning and dieting saw her shine at each competition.

In her first competition, Charlene placed second in the Fitness Model and Muscle Model categories and third in the Mums That Lift category.

She improved on these results at the Miami Pro in July when she placed first in the Ladies Muscle Model and Ladies Figures categories, and came fourth in the Fit Mums category.

Charlene plans to take it easy for December. "It's a selfish sport unfortunately so I've promised my children they can have mummy back," she said.

Charlene now holds pro cards for both Pure Elite and the Miami Pro and will embark on an eight to ten-month training plan in the New Year, in order to step up to next level, aiming to enter into the UK Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation (UKBFF) physique competitions.
