MALMESBURY’S Daphne Schrager has more than justified her inclusion on the British Athletics Talent Development Squad by winning a gold medal at the Brazil Paralympic School Games 2015.

Daphne won one of four gold medals on the track for Team GB on the second day of competition.

She race to success in the T35 100m in a time of 17.30sec and confirmed her place in the world’s top 10.

Fourteen-year-old Daphne attends Millfield School and only started competing in 2013. She is a member of Team Bath.

“The last year has seen a lot of change for Daphne,” said her coach Rob Ellchuck.

“She was spotted several years ago as having potential in athletics, the first steps of achieving that potential have now been taken.

“Selection for the CP World Games this past summer and then for this trip to Brazil to compete at the Paralimpiades Escolares as well as the British Athletics Talent Development Squad highlight how successful this year has been.

“Daphne has met each challenge with enthusiasm and it is a pleasure to support her in her dream of ongoing success.”

Daphne said: "When I run, I forget I am disabled. I never dreamed in a million years that one day I would be able to represent my country."
