CIRENCESTER head pro Ed Goodwin gained top spot in the Gloucestershire and Somerset PGA Medal for the second week in a row.

Goodwin's level par 73 was good enough for a four-way share of first prize at Chipping Sodbury which was hit by the remnants of Storm Barney – a strong breeze and frequent heavy showers.

Six days earlier Goodwin had won at Clevedon.

This time he was joined by Mendip Spring pro Scott Thompson, Windmill Golf Academy’s Louis Boston and Weston Super Mare’s Dan Toogood at the head of the leaderboard.

Goodwin got off to a quick start as he birdied the third, fourth and fifth and was still under par when an unlucky deflection off a tree branch led to a lost ball and a double bogey at the 16th hole.

Boston, who has been great form in the last few weeks, played the last two holes in one under par to join the leaders.

His share of first place closed the gap on Total Triumph Order of Merit leader Ross Langdon to just a couple of points.

Langdon was one of five players tied for fifth place on 74 including G&S PGA captain Nick Ellis (Naunton Downs).

Order of Merit top two Langdon and Boston are both coached at South Cerney GC by Tom Motley who has also been helping Wiltshire's Laurie Canter with his short game.

Canter will be playing on the full European Tour next season after qualifying in the top 25 of the European Tour School in Girona, Spain last week.

Among the other qualifiers were 22-year-old Paul Dunne, who led the Open into the final round as an amateur earlier this year, Edoardo Molinari and Gloucestershire & Somerset regular David Dixon.
