Cirencester AC and Triathlon Club

Valencia Marathon

CIRENCESTER AC runners have been racing at home and abroad from three miles to full marathons in recent days.

Liza Darroch and Rupert Chesmore chose the Valencia Marathon in Spain but a long journey by sea and road coupled with their recent Bristol to Bath Marathon was not the ideal preparation.

The warm weather also took its toll and they were glad to see the finish.

Although disappointed with their time of 4hr 36min Liza was pleased to be second in her age category.

Broadway Marathon

MEANWHILE two of the club's ultra runners were making light of the challenging Broadway Marathon, run over hilly trails and footpaths in the North Cotswolds. Victory went to Rob Forbes in a new course record of 3hr 20m, while fifth and first MV40 was Richard Hurdle in 3:56.

Shakespeare Raceway 10k

ANOTHER to be among the award winners was Rachel Barber-Brock who finished second in her age category and sixth lady overall in the Shakespeare Raceway 10k near Stratford-on-Avon with a time of 45.54.

Poppy 5k

NEW member Holly Tugwell added to the crop of successful lady runners in the club when she travelled to the south coast for the Poppy 5k at Bexhill-on-Sea.

She was 23rd out of a field of nearly 400 and second lady with an impressive time of 18.56.

Parkruns

THE club was well represented in various parkruns. Dave Moss took in the Copenhagen race during a recent visit to Denmark and was pleased to finish in the top half of a competitive field in 24.53. Jenny Manners also fitted in a 5k parkrun during a weekend away with the Fell Foot race on the banks of Lake Windermere, where she showed her class by finishing first lady and eighth overall in 20.40.

The weekly Swindon Parkrun was well supported by the club with nine members among the 358 finishers.

First home was club male captain Simon Campbell in eighth place closely followed by female captain Jo Musk who was second lady finisher.

However. two of the finest performances came from the juniors with Daniel Winfield winning the 11 to 14-year-old category and Tom Williams, the youngest in the race, who was paced by dad Adrian to a commanding victory in the class for 10-year- olds.
