CIRENCESTER’S Steph Caller enjoyed a successful Wakeboard World Cup in China finishing sixth in her event.

Steph, who competes for WMSki near South Cerney in the UK, travelled to Shanghai to tackle her third World Cup event, having also participated at Tokyo in 2012 and in Beijing last year.

Competing in the Open Ladies Final Wakeboard category, Steph did enough to secure sixth place.

The gold medal went to Germany’s Julia Rick followed by Sanne Meijer of the Netherlands, whose fellow countrywoman Maxine Sapulette came in third.

Steph said: “I couldn’t be happier coming back from the World Cup in China with a sixth place finish. I had an amazing trip.

“It’s been a pretty awesome year for me. I didn’t really expect much, not having had the chance to ride as much as usual with my local lake temporarily closing.

“But I think winning the British Nationals at the start of the summer gave me a real boost for the season.”

Steph was also selected to represent Great Britain at September’s European Championships, held in Italy, where she finished eighth.

Also competing for GB were Chloe Goudie, Sophie Cordery, Ryan Peacock and ski jumper Ben Toyne.

Returning to the UK, Steph had a few weeks to train before heading out to Shanghai at the start of October for the World Cup.

“International events are great as you get to catch up with friends from all over the world, visit a new country and watch the level of sport you love get higher and higher,” added Steph.

“It’s insane what some of the girls are doing now. It is so motivating and a real privilege to be a part of. I can’t wait for next summer already!”
