OVER the last two weekends the GRFU Rugby World Cup activation area has attracted more than 200 children to the Gloucester Quays fanzone.

The Rugby World Cup (RWC) touch tournament saw local clubs including Dursley, Hucclecote, Lydney, Longlevens and Painswick representing different countries.

With the likes of Uruguay beating Australia and Samoa beating South Africa – the results were almost as unpredictable as in the real tournament.

Nicky Gamble, who organised these activities, said: “A fun morning was had by all and it was great to see ten local clubs involved.”

Julie Farrier, the GRFU volunteering sector head, said: “Sincere thanks to all the club coaches who refereed their squads and to Nicky for administrating both festivals.

“I’m now looking forward to the next two weekends (Sunday, October 4 and Sunday, October 11) as it will be the turn of the girls to play some touch rugby.

“Please come along between 10am to 12 noon to see the girls play and perhaps stay behind and watch some RWC games on the big screen.”
