DANNY KENT revealed his racing plans for 2016 on Sunday but missed a golden opportunity to take a vice-like grip on the 2015 Moto3 world championship with a last-corner crash in Spain.

With his main title rival Enea Bastianini crashing out earlier on the final lap, Tetbury's Kent was booked for at least third place and the chance to extend his already comfortable championship lead.

Pushing for the win, he attacked inside Jorge Navarro on the final corner but the rear end of his Leopard Racing Honda got away from him.

He was catapulted spectacularly across the track, fortunately hurting nothing more than his pride.

His failure to finish did no damage to his championship tilt either with both he and Bastianini failing to score.

With four races remaining Kent leads by 55 points and can clinch the title in Japan on October 11 should he outscore his Italian rival by 20 points.

Walking away from the bone-shaking crash at Aragon, Kent said: “Overall it’s a little bit disappointing not to finish the race because we had a big chance to extend our championship lead today.

"However, I would be more disappointed if I had finished in second and Enea had won the race as we would have lost points again.

"I had a little bit more corner speed than Navarro so I tried to go on the inside but the rear came under me and threw me over the bike.

"Luckily I’m ok but it’s a shame to miss out on this big opportunity to finish on the podium again."

Earlier Kent confirmed that he has not been tempted by offers to ride in the top-tier MotoGP next season, instead staying loyal to Kiefer Racing and moving up to Moto2 with them.

Ironically, the main beneficiary of Kent's Aragon crash, Red Bull rider Miguel Oliveira, will become Kent's teammate next season.

Kiefer, currently competing under the Leopard Racing banner, won the Moto2 title with Stefan Bradl in 2011.

“I'm really happy to sign for Leopard Racing in 2016 for Moto2," said Kent.

"We're experiencing a great season this year so I'm really excited to start our challenge in the intermediate category."

Leopard Racing's Miodrag Kotur said: "We are happy to continue our collaboration with Danny who has shown not only his potential as a rider but also his loyalty for Leopard Racing many times.

"We are also pleased to be able to offer him a great opportunity in Moto2. But first we must stay focused on our current exciting 2015 campaign.”

Kent is understood to have signed a one-year deal with a further option for 2017.
