COTSWOLDS racing driver Alice Powell has been named in the top 50 female rising stars in sport for 2015.
She was shortlisted by WeAreTheCity.com, a free careers platform for women. More than 340 entries were judged and the awards will be presented at the House of Lords next week.
The 22-year-old British Racing Drivers Club (BRDC) Rising Star, who lives near Chipping Norton, has had limited racing this year due to lack of sponsorship.
In April she raced for Aston Martin in the 24 Hours of Silverstone event, alongside Aston Martin CEO Andy Palmer, finishing fourth in her class. That has been Powell’s only racing of the year.
The former student at The Cotswold School in Bourton-on-the-Water has still been busy in the sport, running her own team in the Formula Kart Stars Championship, with female-only drivers. She is also mentoring another talented up-and-coming young female driver, Bryony King.
On the award, Alice said: “It is an absolute honour to be named in such a list.
"I have not done as much racing this year, but to still be named in the list is amazing.
"I would like to thank WeAreTheCity for the shortlist and all the fantastic support from everyone on Twitter.
"I hope to sort out some more racing for this year, leading to a full-season drive in 2016.”
