Severn Bridge Half Marathon, 13.1 miles, roads
THE Severn Bridge Half Marathon was voted most the popular new race last year and proved just as enjoyable this time around.
Planned to create a negative split (faster second half than first) it starts in the centre of the old Severn Bridge, takes in a very hilly English half and finishes quickly on the Welsh side.
Martin Croucher was the best-placed Ciren runner in 68th place with a 1:28.41.
Tim Ingham, in his first half marathon, ran a 1:46 and Liza Darroch was pipped into second FV65, finishing in just under two hours.
Results: 1, Steve Way (Bournemouth AC) 1:12.40; 68, Martin Croucher 1:28.41; 494, Tim Ingham 1:46.18; 641, Rupert Chesmore 1:49.47; 877, Nick Wall 1:55.30; 1098, Liza Darroch 1:59.56; 1,723, Barbara Thomas 2:16.57, and 2,301 finished.
Bugatti 10km, nr Winchcombe, 10km roads
VETERAN Gordon Jones finished first for Ciren in 82nd place in this hilly and challenging race that finishes at the Prescott Hill Climb motor sport course. Rupert Chesmore, Liza Darroch and Barbara Thomas used it to warm-up for the Severn Bridge event and Rachel Jones and Ruth Fulford were the final Ciren runners.
Results: 1, Douglas Wight (Almost Athletes) 36.33; 82, Gordon Jones 48.28; 106, Rupert Chesmore 50.21; 149, Liza Darroch 56.31; 155, Barbara Thomas 57.13; 165, Rachel Jones 58.51; 172, Ruth Fulford 1:00.13, and 199 finished.
Ultra Trail du Mont Blanc, France/Switzerland, 170km, 10,000mtr climbs, trails
JUST the title of this event is daunting but Richard Hurdle ran a well-planned race, for the second year, knocking some 20 hours off last year's time.
He finished in 38:21.45 and came in 509th out of 1,632 finishers. Xavier Thevenard (France) won in a remarkable 21:09.15.
Marple Parkrun (Stockport) 5km, trails
GEOFF WELLS continues to run the NW Parkruns, finishing 31st out of 184 runners in a solid 22.16.
The winner was Stuart Cameron (Stockport AC) in 16.57.
Cheltenham Parkrun
RUTH FULFORD, even after a gruelling Bugatti race in the week, was first FV65 in 28.07. Alex Lee (Cheltenham Harriers) won in 16.51 and 439 finished.
Malahide, Dublin Parkrun
PETER NUNN pops up in unusual places and came home in 15th place in a competitive field in Dublin, finishing in 19.15. David Byrne (Ireland) won in 16.40 and 338 finished.
