Easington Sports 3 Purton 3
PURTON'S players and management were 'gutted' after picking up only a draw in their match on Saturday against a physical Easington Sports side who conjured up a leveller in the 90th minute, writes Alan Eastwood.
In the opening few minutes the hosts pressed hard but it was Purton with two efforts by Steve May who went close.
On 15 minutes Purton went ahead when May was fouled just outside the the box and Jamie Richards despatched the free kick into the net.
Seven minutes later, however, Paul Carson conceded a penalty and Andrew Stridder levelled the scores.
Dave Coleman and Ben Carter (twice) were denied a goal but Purton regained the lead after 34 minutes when Carter was upended in the box and he netted the resulting spot kick to give Purton a 2-1 lead at the break.
Three minutes after the re-start, Carter saw an effort blocked while at the other end Purton keeper Daniel Gough kept out a Stridder header.
On 67 minutes Purton went 3-1 up when a lob from well out on the left by Tatenda Majoni sailed over the home keeper's head.
The home side brought on James McMahon with 15 minutes remaining and he pulled a goal back with a brilliant header; the same player rubbed salt into the wounds when netting again right on normal time after a goalmouth scramble.
In the sixth minute of injury time Purton sub Michael Doust had a chance to score the winner but his effort was saved by the Easington keeper just a yard from goal.
