GLOUCESTERSHIRE’S Ian Coley MBE returned victorious from the 2015 Home Internationals and British Open in Ireland recently, despite a near 40-year break from competitive Down-The-Line (DTL) shooting.
Coley, who runs a shooting school in Andoversford, returned to the shooting discipline last year, and his hard work paid off when he was made captain of the England Super Veterans team.
Not only did the Super Veterans win their category on both days, but Ian also won the prestigious Nev Bailey Trophy for the highest scoring individual from the Super Veteran, Veteran, Ladies and Junior classes over the two days of competition.
Coley was last in the England DTL team in 1977, but coached Richard Faulds to Olympic shooting gold at the Sydney Games in 2000, repeating this success with Peter Wilson at London, 2012.
Two other members of the Coley team have also seen success in the sporting field, with assistant shop manager Matt Panter, being selected for the England Olympic Trap team for the Home Internationals in August, and Sue Tippett adding the Gloucestershire Ladies Skeet Champion title to her other Olympic Trap, Automatic Ball Trap and Down-The-Line ladies county titles.
