Sweetfuels CDCA Div Three
Cirencester III 201-5; Slaughters II 214-7
CIRENCESTER thirds fell an agonising 13 runs short chasing Slaughters' 214-7 in their CDCA Div Three match on Saturday.
Sent in to bat on a track offering bounce, Cirencester’s Seb Ellis soon bowled Andy Herbert for two, only for Adam Webley (62) and Dan O’Driscoll (69) to put on 107 runs for the second wicket.
Veterans Phil Carter and Jon Turner then managed to gain some control, with a stunning outfield catch by Jimmy Woodcock dismissing O’Driscoll. But a lively 32 from Tom Wrenn led Slaughters to a challenging score.
The Cirencester reply got off to a poor start when Mike Howell was dismissed by Phil Handy, but then it was Cirencester’s turn to impose themselves as Dom Jeffcott and Woodcock (44) pushed the score past 100.
Cirencester still needed 16 from the final over and despite Jeffcott (100*) securing a valiant century, the boundaries had dried up and Slaughters earned themselves a fine victory.
