IT WAS disappointing to miss out on the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-finals because of the Essex v Kent match being abandoned but we shouldn’t have been in a position where we had to rely on other results, writes Michael Klinger.

We had a quick chat about it after the match against Glamorgan on Friday.

Every team in the tournament that has missed out is probably saying the same thing but we lost some games we really should have won and maybe under pressure we didn’t execute well enough with the bat or the ball.

The only way we will get better is by playing more games under pressure and getting over the line in a couple of them, then hopefully it will become more of a habit and I think this tournament will be great for us going forward.

The Glamorgan match came down to five overs-a-side because of the weather. It’s difficult because one over can make all the difference.

I thought James Fuller, to bowl a maiden, was unbelievable That over put us in a good place – to chase only 45 with ten wickets in hand – and then Denty (Chris Dent), Jonesy (Geraint Jones)and Benny Howell got the job done, so it was a great effort.

We have now moved straight into the Royal London One-Day Cup.

Fifty-over cricket is very different with a new ball at each end and it will be a different style of cricket, but we’ve got guys who are in good form who I’m confident will perform well.

The bowling group were fantastic against Yorkshire and hopefully they can repeat that performance in the future. I think that our bowlers can be a real strength for us in this competition.

The Yorkshire game was abandoned with us chasing 228. It’s hard to know what would have happened, but I would back us eight or nine times out of ten to chase that down.

The match we are all looking forward to is the home game against Somerset this Sunday (August 2).

We’ve seen in the T20 games both home and away the atmosphere was unbelievable and we hope our supporters will come down and recreate that on Sunday. We beat them in the shorter format and we will definitely take confidence from the T20 into the one-dayers.
