Snowdonia Trail Marathon, North Wales

FANCY a long run – uphill? Then the Snowdonia Trail Marathon is the race for you as it is estimated at 28 miles, over rough terrain and with a climb of more than 5,500 feet thrown in.

Ed Morris, who puts in a lot of club training time, finished solidly in the top quarter of the field with a 5:39.05 and was 74th out of 319. Stuart Walker won in 4:04.23.

Devil’s Chimney, Leckhampton Hill, Cheltenham, six miles, multi-terrain

BARBARA THOMAS rarely misses this particularly challenging event and although she finished down the field, the effort was worth it. Barbara finished 134th in a time of 1:06.30, about 25 seconds longer than last year. Felix McGrath (Westbury Harriers) won in 35.25 and 144 finished.

Sale Sizzler, Manchester, 5km road

GEOFF WELLS, after his move north, has settled into the local running scene finishing 230th out of 467 finishers. Geoff ran a solid 21.21 and the winner was Joe Bailey (Salford Harriers) in a feisty 14.34.

Cotswold 24 hour race, Cirencester Park, multi-terrain

RICHARD HURDLE took a last-minute decision to run this new event and to use it as a training run. On a 9km circuit he completed 100km in 11hr 22min (a PB for him) but shortly afterwards turned an ankle in the murky woods. Sensibly, he called it a day at 12 hours but it just shows what these ultra runners do for pleasure.

The winner was Paul Beechy and he completed 198km.

Swindon Parkrun, 5km trail

AFTER the previous day’s storms the trails were very wet, so most runners were off their PB times.

Simon Crew was first junior and ran an 18.43 to finish a commendable seventh overall. At the opposite end of the age spectrum Gordon Jones was first V65, finishing 68th in 22.19.

Mark Edwards came in ahead of son James and Barbara Thomas was third LV55. Richard Crew jogged round and David Moss ran with friends to make up the Ciren contingent.

Results – 1, Jason Pascoe (Cani-Cross) 16.09; 7, Simon Crew 18.43; 68, Gordon Jones 22.19; 86, Mark Edwards 23.00; 102, James Edwards 22.33; 203, Barbara Thomas 26,37; 296, Richard Crew 31.01; 398, David Moss 36,47. 444 finished.
