PERFORMANCE of the day in the Sweetfuels CDCA was undoubtedly from Williamstrip batsman Mike Godwin.

He scored a spectacular unbeaten 172 out of his team’s total of 244-9 in the relegation clash at home to Stow-on-the-Wold.

With 26 extras and the second highest individual score being 13 this was truly a one-man batting masterclass and put the hosts in a very strong position.

After tea, nine-man Stow started well enough with four of the top five making starts but all of them got out while well set.

Max Fisher (47) top-scored for Stow while Chris Hicks (4-27) bowled a good spell to confirm Williamstrip’s second win of the season.

At the other end of the table, Avening & Cherington got back to winning ways with a good win at Oakridge.

The hosts were inserted and got off to a poor start losing both their prolific openers to Tom Redpath (2-36) with only 33 on the board. A period of consolidation followed as Steve Robbins (56*) and Ed Bryant (46) put on 122 to raise the Oakridge score to 155-3 after 40 overs.

After the break the visitors started solidly through Tom Redpath (30) but once his first wicket fell Steve Robbins (3-56) took several others. Avening skipper Jay Richings (53*) came to the rescue with a hard-hitting innings as the league leaders eased to victory on 156-6 in the 32nd over.

Second-placed Barnsley Beeches made up some ground with a comfortable home win against homeless Oaksey. The hosts were invited to bat and an excellent opening partnership between Andrew Walker (64) and Rob Howard (41) laid the foundation for a very competitive total of 225-9.

For the visitors, Andy Steward (3-39) bowled well on his return from injury. The Oaksey reply saw several batsmen making a start but then getting out as Bobby Denney (3-27) and Ed Latter (3-30) made inroads. An aggressive innings from skipper Ken Lane (37) was not enough as the visitors were restricted to 182-9 at the close.

Cricklade moved up into third place with a very impressive win at Sherston Magna. After being inserted the hosts were going well during a productive second wicket partnership between Andy Jarvis (41) and James Harmer (37). However, the remainder of the Sherston batting line-up had little to offer as Andy Lea (3-31) and Tom Davies (2-28) took out the middle order, then Darren Fisher (3-11) wiped out the tail with a hat-trick off the last three balls leaving Sherston on 142 all out.

The momentum then stayed with Cricklade as their opening pair Paul Dewsbury (65*) and Danny Lloyd (53*) reached the target in the 29th over without losing a wicket.

The recent Adlestrop revival was halted in decisive fashion as they were blown away at home by visitors NATS.

First use of the pitch did not prove to be an advantage as Phil Cross (2-10) and Rob Griffiths (2-22) bowled outstanding opening spells to leave Adlestrop in trouble. The pattern continued as change bowlers Will Spence (2-33) and Andrew Phillips (2-29) restricted the hosts to only 97-9 at the break.

NATS openers Andrew Phillips (64*) and Stuart Phillips (30*) saw no demons in the pitch as they cruised to a ten-wicket victory in only 16 overs.
