NatWest T20 Blast

Glamorgan 45-1; Gloucestershire 51-2

GLOUCESTERSHIRE were eliminated from the NatWest T20 competition despite beating Glamorgan in a rain-reduced five-overs-a-side game at the Swalec Stadium on Friday night.

Another disappointment for Gloucestershire was that Michael Klinger, the competition's leading run scorer with 653 before the game, failed to break Jason Roy’s domestic T20 run record when he was caught by Jacques Rudolph off David Lloyd for just one.

When the game got underway at 8.57pm Gloucestershire already knew their fate thanks to Essex's point against Kent at Chelmsford in a game that was abandoned without a ball being bowled.

But Glamorgan still had a chance of qualification and their players were desperate to get on the rain-soaked field.

However, the visiting bowlers did a brilliant job at restricting the Glamorgan innings to just 45 runs from their five overs.

Gloucestershire needed nine an over to win but there was a blow when Lloyd removed danger man Klinger in the second over.

Lloyd collected his second wicket in the over when he bowled Geraint Jones for 10.

But Chris Dent and Benny Howell made light work of reaching the total, putting on 29 runs in just two overs to seal the win.
