Sweetfuels CDCA Div Two
North Cerney 180-2; Fairford II 179-7
NORTH CERNEY made short work of Fairford seconds, thanks mainly to excellent performances from two of their younger players, J Pethick with the ball and Will Scott with the bat.
Fairford were put into bat by the hosts and looked capable of posting a decent score while experienced opener David Taylor was at the crease.
He made a busy 75 with good support from Will Bathurst (25) and Colin Denness (29*). However, the team's innings lacked real momentum and the final score of 179-7 looked below par, particularly given the very short downhill boundary on the day.
Pethick bowled with accuracy and movement to take 4-43.
North Cerney batted aggressively from the first ball of their reply, not letting the loss of two early wickets to Taylor (2-35) upset their approach.
Scott struck seven sixes and 11 fours on his way to a well-deserved 105* with Dan Robbins happy to play second fiddle for 32*.
