TRIATHLETES Carol Clarke and Sarah Gunn from the Cirencester Tri Club represented Great Britain at the European Age-Group Championships in Switzerland recently.
Carol Clarke took the silver medal in the Vet 65 plus age-group Sprint Distance race in a hot and humid Geneva.
Battling hard in a choppy Lake Geneva, Carol finished in a very creditable time of 1hr 38min just behind Cheltenham’s Sue Bathgate, who took the gold.
At times temperatures soared into the 30s and a strong breeze added to the difficulties of a notorious 900-metre climb on the bike.
Sarah Gunn was the first Briton home in her Vet 50 plus age-group Standard Distance event, taking sixth place overall in a time of 2hr 27min.
Jon Wickett, who trains with the Cirencester Tri Club, finished second Briton home in his Vets 45 plus age-group Standard Event in 2:11.
Stroud’s Dot Liviabella captured bronze behind two very strong Swiss competitors, while Mark Evans also competed in the Sprint Distance competition.
